So my mom is from Mexico and I know that Cinco de Mayo is not a holiday there, it celebrates a victory over the French (I’m also part French BTW 🙂 at the battle of Puebla in 1863. OK now that we have that out of the way I made an AMAZING SPICY margarita!
The secret is steeping the jalapeños and Thai chilis in the simple syrup so it really soaks up the heat. It has just the right balance of sweet and heat!
How do you make spicy tequila?
You can infuse your tequila with spice by adding cut chilis to a bottle and letting them steep. The longer you let those peppers soak in the tequila, the spicier it will be!
Like your drink extra spicy?
Run a Thai chili along the rim and then salt it. Add some chilis to the shaker with the drink and enjoy!
If you’ve tried this spicy margarita then don’t forget to rate the recipe and let me know how you got on in the comments below, I love hearing from you!
- 1/2 cup silver tequila
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 1/4 cup orange liquor
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 jalapeno sliced
- 8 Thai Chilis sliced lengthwise
For the Simple Syrup
- Add the sugar and water to a saucepan. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and add the jalapeño and 6 of the Thai chilis. Allow to steep for about 20 minutes then strain.
- Add ice, tequila, orange liquor, lime juice, and 1/3 cup of the simple syrup to a shaker and shake!
