This refreshing Agua Fresca is just about perfect for a hot day and it comes together in just a few minutes! I added fresh lime juice, a dash of honey, and a lot of watermelon to a blender and that's just about it! If you have an extra second, crush some mint and let it steep in your pitcher, the flavor is amazing!!

The weather has been pretty punishing lately and I’ll gladly jump at any opportunity to cool down. What better way than with a delicious natural drink made from fresh ingredients?!

Agua fresca is a street cart staple but I have to admit feeling more comfortable having made it in my own kitchen. I used a nut milk bag to strain mine for a pulp-free experience but you can use a strainer and have very similar results. The mint is optional but I loved the added depth of flavor it gave!

    How to Make Agua Fresca

a watermelon being cut and placed in a blender

    1. Chop up a small watermelon into cubes. If your watermelon has seeds, pick them out before blending .

    2. Transfer the cubes to a blender.

line and honey being added to a blender

    3. Squeeze the juice of 2 limes into the blender.

    4. Add a drizzle of honey.

    blending and straining watermelon

    5. Blend until smooth.

    6. Squeeze the blended juice through a nut milk bag. Serve with a few sprigs of mint for garnish.

How do you choose a ripe watermelon?

Tap the watermelon towards the bottom. You should hear a deep hollow sound. You’ll also see a large  yellow splotch where the melon was in contact with the ground. Lastly the melon will feel heavy for it’s size.

Pro Tips to make Watermelon Agua Fresca

    • If you don’t want to use a nut milk bag, just strain through a sieve.
    • Water or more ice can be added to “stretch” the drink out and reduce sugar content. Of course if you’d like less calories then go ahead and skip the honey.
    • This would make a great cocktail! Add in a shot of light rum or vodka and a sprig of mint. Give it a good shake, serve strained, over ice or blended!
    • This lasts in the fridge for two days. Keep it covered and give it a good swirl before
