Ingredients
Eggs — try to use large eggs that are approximately the same size for each batch you air fry so they cook at the same speed.
Seasoning — a simple sprinkle of salt and pepper is delicious enough, but you can season your air fryer hard boiled eggs any way you like!
How To Make Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs
1. Place 4 eggs in the air fryer basket.
2. Set the air fryer to 250°F and cook the eggs for 15 minutes (for a creamier yolk) or 17 minutes (for a firmer, drier yolk).
3. Immediately transfer the perfect hard boiled eggs to a bowl of ice water. Let them sit for 15 minutes.
4. Peel the air fryer eggs, season them, and enjoy.
How Many Eggs Can I Air Fry At One Time?
This depends on the size of your air fryer. I can comfortably fit 4 to 6 eggs in my air fryer basket. Just make sure there is about an inch of space between each egg so the air can circulate around them for even cooking.
Tips For Peeling Boiled Eggs
- Don’t skip the ice bath! Not only does soaking the eggs in a bowl of cold water halt cooking to prevent the eggs from overcooking, but it also shocks the eggs, causing the egg whites to pull away from the egg membrane and shell.
- Crack the shell all over. Once the eggs have sat in the ice bath, tap them all over or roll them on your counter to crack their shells and make them easy to peel. Don’t crack them only in one place.
- Use a Mason jar. You can also put the eggs in a Mason jar with 2 tablespoons of cold water and gently shake until the peel begins to separate from the firm egg white. Remove the eggs from the jar and peel.
- Use these to make Easter eggs! This is a great way to cook eggs for dying. It’s super fast and hands-free.
Adjust The Cooking Time For Firmer Yolks
Adjust the air fryer method cooking time for the perfect eggs. At 250°F, air fry the eggs for 15 minutes for softer, creamier yolks. This is a good option if you are making air fryer hard boiled eggs to snack on or to use as a topping.
For firmer, flakier yolks, cook the eggs for 17 minutes. Firmer yolks are great if you’re making deviled eggs or if you’re chopping the eggs to use in salads.
Ways to Use Air-Fried Hard-Boiled Eggs
There are so many ways to use air fryer hard boiled eggs:
- For a quick, satiating snack, slice the eggs and season them with whatever you like: flaky salt and pepper, a drizzle of olive oil, hot sauce, fresh herbs, or everything bagel seasoning.
- Slice the air-fried hard boiled eggs and use them on avocado toast or on a niçoise salad.
- Use the eggs to make deviled eggs, egg salad (and then make delicious egg salad sandwiches!), macaroni salad, or potato salad.
How To Store
The cooked eggs should be refrigerated within 2 hours of being cooked. You can store them peeled or unpeeled for up to 1 week.
To store unpeeled air-fried hard boiled eggs, simply refrigerate them in any kind of container (it does not need to be covered). Peel the eggs as you need them.
To store peeled eggs, place them in an airtight container with enough water to cover the eggs to keep them from drying out. Change the water daily.
Pro Tips For Making This Recipe
- Choose eggs of a similar size. Eggs within the same carton can vary in size. Use large eggs (about 57g/2oz each) for the cooking times given. If your eggs are slightly larger or smaller, add or subtract 2 minutes, respectively.
- Batch cook large quantities of eggs. Since air fryer hard boiled eggs last for about a week in the refrigerator, you can air fry several eggs in batches of 4 (or the amount you know your air fryer can hold) and store them for a quick snack or meal addition.
- Use older eggs. Fresh eggs are more difficult to peel. Just check the expiration date on the package. If you are within a couple of weeks of the date, they should peel more easily!
Frequently Asked Questions
You can freeze the egg yolks. After peeling the eggs, slice them in half and separate the egg yolk. Store the yolks in a freezer bag for up to 3 months. I don’t recommend freezing the egg whites as their texture does not hold up well once thawed.
No, just like with the traditional method of boiling whole eggs, the eggs will not explode in the air fryer.
One main reason eggs are difficult to peel is that they are still warm when you’re trying to peel them. They need to soak in the ice water bath for 15 minutes so the egg whites experience a cold shock and contract away from the egg membrane. Additionally, using very fresh eggs can be a culprit. Older eggs are easier to peel.
