    Gourmet Grilled Cheese

How good is this simple sandwich? I actually got a euphoric feeling after my first bite and finished the whole thing in moments. That’s how good it was. The sharp cheddar CREAMY double cream gouda and rich Jarlsberg all melted into a dream-like pool of wonderment. When paired with a sweet and spicy jalapeño jam, some summery heirloom tomatoes and a perfect, fresh sourdough bread there’s just nothing not to like.

If you’re looking for an easy way to treat yourself just make this sandwich. I promise you’ll love it.

    A Few Tips

    • Make sure to use your favorite bread for this sandwich, it really makes a difference!
    • You can play with the cheeses used in this recipe, if you can find a double cream gouda though I highly recommend it!
    • If you’re making multiple sandwiches make sure to adjust your cook time as the pan will keep heating up.
    • I added some thin slices of jalapeño into one of the sandwiches and loved the extra spice. You might want to give that a try if you’re a spice lover.

How to make a gourmet grilled cheese

    Gourmet Grilled Cheese

    1. Heat an iron skillet over high heat. Cut a bread loaf into large slices.
    2. Butter each side generously.
    3. Add cheese.
    4. Slather on jalapeno jam.
    5. Cut heirloom tomato slices and set aside.
    6. Assemble the sandwich. Sprinkle with salt.
    7. Add a dollop of butter to the skillet. Cook on one side for about 3 minutes or until the cheese is partially melted.
    8. Take off and add a few slices of tomatoes.
    9. Return sandwich to the other uncooked side. Cook for about 3 minutes or until the cheese has melted.

This grilled cheese sandwich is so easy but beyond delicious. It’s a very simple recipe with only a few ingredients so what makes a difference it using wonderful cheeses, the best tomatoes and a fresh bread you love. I got a freshly baked sourdough loaf from my local bakery, sliced some slightly thicker pieces and  and LOVED it in this sandwich. It made such a difference!
