Sweet and creamy, this Colorado Bulldog is a delightful cocktail that goes down smoothly. What makes it so unique is a splash of cola that adds a bubbly and sweet twist to this drink. The drink’s history is unknown, but it’s a twist on a White Russian and Black Russian.

It comes together quickly with no special ingredients and is the perfect sweet and boozy vodka cocktail that everyone will love. You don’t need a special occasion to make this drink. For another rich and creamy cocktail, try my mudslide cocktail!

What You Need to Make This Recipe

Ingredients needed to make a Colorado Bulldog.

Vodka — I recommend picking a good quality vodka as it is the base of this cocktail. The flavors of the other ingredients may overpower the vodka, but you still want something smooth. While some believe vodka to be flavorless, vodkas can vary in taste based on the fermentation material used to make the spirit. I use Grey Goose for this cocktail as it has subtle citrus notes and hints of pepper and anise.

Coffee liqueur — the coffee liqueur I like to use for this Colorado Bulldog cocktail is Kahlúa. It’s made with arabica coffee beans and Mexican-grown sugar, giving off delicious coffee notes and sweetness for your cocktail. Keep in mind that coffee liqueur does contain caffeine.

Cola — a splash of cola adds fizz and sweetness to your cocktail. You can also use diet cola instead of regular cola if you prefer.

Cream — heavy cream gives you the creamiest results.

Pro Tips for Making This Recipe

    • Using milk or half and half will lighten the drink; however, it won’t be as creamy as using heavy cream.
    • Try using flavored vodka such as vanilla, caramel, and cherry to add another layer of flavor to the Colorado Bulldog.
    • Slowly pour the cola as it can create a lot of foam.
    • You can also shake the vodka, coffee liqueur, and cream together in a cocktail shaker or mason jar if you prefer. Strain into a glass and then top off with the cola.
    • Chilling the vodka and coffee liqueur beforehand leads to a colder drink.
    • Make this drink sweeter by increasing the coffee liqueur or stronger with more vodka.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Why did my drink curdle?

The cream in the Colorado Bulldog drink may curdle when you add cola. Curdling is due to the citric acid in the cola. You can attempt to prevent the curdling by adding the cola slowly and avoiding adding too much. However, if the drink curdles, not to worry, it’s not a big deal; just stir it.

    What are some variations?

    • Swap vodka for tequila to make a Colorado Mother.
    • Skip the cola and cream for a Black Russian.
    • Skip the cola for a White Russian.

Can I make a large batch?

You can! Simply multiply the ingredients with the number of servings you need, add it to a pitcher, and store it in the refrigerator. Skip the ice and cola until ready to serve this way, the drink doesn’t get diluted with melted ice, and the cola doesn’t lose its fizz.
