WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
Butter — be sure to have your butter at room temperature so you can beat it easily. Room temperature butter should make a slight indent when pressed with your finger. Use real butter and not butter substitute for the best results. This is a great time to use really good quality butter, like European-style or high-fat grass-fed butter, to give the honey butter a more decadent and luxurious taste.
Honey — you can use any variety of honey you prefer. Honey takes on the flavor of where the honey bees gather nectar from, and there are more than 300 varieties to choose from!
HOW TO MAKE HONEY BUTTER
1. Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium-low speed until smooth and a bit fluffy, about 1 minute.
2. Add ¼ cup of honey. Beat until well combined.
3. Beat in the vanilla and cinnamon with the honey if using.
4. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon honey and fold it 2 or 3 times with a spatula to create swirls of honey in the butter.
PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE
- To get the honey out of your measuring cup without scraping it, spray it with oil before adding the honey. Doing so helps the honey slide right out of the cup!
- If your kitchen is cold and it’s taking a while for the butter to come to room temperature, you can cut the butter into smaller cubes to speed up the process.
- If you only have unsalted butter, add a pinch of sea salt. The salt helps make this honey butter flavorful and enhances the sweetness.
- If you have a cold kitchen, you might notice that your honey has crystallized. Natural honey will crystallize over time. To get your honey to liquid form to whip into the butter, gently heat the jar of honey in a pot of water until it reverts to its liquid form.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Should this butter be refrigerated?
Store the sweetened butter in the refrigerator in an airtight container when not using for up to a week. When ready to serve, bring the butter to room temperature.
What is this butter used for?
You can use honey butter in place of regular butter outside of cooking and baking. Spread the honey butter over pancakes, waffles, scones, English muffins, dinner rolls, baguettes, cornbread, crescent rolls, and more!
Can I make this without a mixer?
Yes, you can make this butter recipe by hand if you do not own a mixer. However, the butter will have to be extremely soft to make whisking it easy. Also, keep in mind that you will not get the same light and creamy smoothness that whipping the butter results in. Whipping with the mixer adds air to the butter and makes it lighter than simply stirring it together.
