WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS RECIPE

Ingredients needed to make strawberry margaritas.

Strawberries — it’s best to use fresh strawberries for this recipe, as frozen strawberries can make it taste watered-down. Select the brightest-looking berries you can find for maximum sweetness as the redder they are, the riper they are.

Tequila — since the ingredient list is short, it’s important to use a good tequila, but no need to break the bank with a super-expensive one. I like using silver tequila.

Orange liqueur — I love using Cointreau or Grand Marnier for my margaritas. They have a more complex flavor and are not as sweet as triple sec as the strawberries and honey take care of the sweetness.

PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE

  • Always use fresh lime juice as the bottled juices don’t have the same bright citrus flavor and have a slightly bitter aftertaste.
  • If you’re throwing a party, scale the recipe up and transfer the drink to a big ice-filled pitcher to keep cool. Stir before pouring.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of the ingredients as desired. If you prefer the drink to be stronger, increase the alcohol, or add more honey if you like your drink to be sweeter.
  • If you don’t have margarita salt, you can make your own by adding lemon or lime zest to salt. Alternatively, add some chile powder to your salt, or use Tajin seasoning to change things up.
  • Make it a strawberry margarita on the rocks by pouring the drink over a glass of ice.
  • Try adding some mint or thyme to the drink as a garnish. You’ll get a nice botanical infusion.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I turn this into a frozen strawberry margarita?

To make a frozen version of this drink, add approximately 2 cups of ice in a blender. Blend until the consistency is similar to a slushy. However, as the ice will dilute the flavor, I recommend adding a splash more of the alcohol. Alternatively, you can put the drink (made without ice) into the freezer. The alcohol will keep it from freezing completely, so you get a slushy consistency.

What is the difference between a strawberry daiquiri and a strawberry margarita?

A strawberry daiquiri is made with rum and simple syrup, while a margarita contains tequila and orange liqueur.
